Lead Avionics Technician

Job Title: Lead Avionics Technician

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely alongside the airframe lead and perform hands-on technician duties.

  • Serve as the sole point of contact for all avionics-related tasks/issues.

  • Streamline priorities related to avionics tasks and act as the main avionics technician.

  • Escalate the need for additional manpower to the supervisor if required to meet project deadlines.

  • Adhere to General Work Requirements

  • Complete logs, discrepancies, and/or modification notices

  • Transport aircraft to designated locations

  • Install test equipment on the aircraft for ground and/or in-flight troubleshooting or FTPs

  • Remove and Install LRUs

  • Perform avionics and electrical preflight inspections

  • Remove / replace and repair electrical wiring and harnesses per applicable engineering and modification notices

  • Assist with setting up Aircraft for Elect and Avionic FTPs to include Interior work

  • Assist with launching and recovering aircraft from flight

  • Assist with troubleshooting pre/post-flight discrepancies pertaining to avionics and electrical systems

  • Ensure time compliance equipment, for example, air data computers, communications, standby air speed and altimeters are applicable parts of chapter 14 CFR (FARs)

  • Remove all temporary and protective equipment from aircraft and install final aircraft product equipment

  • Remove / reinstall aircraft panels in preparation for airworthiness certification inspection and repair post-inspection avionics and electrical system discrepancies as required

  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairing avionics and electrical systems prior to and after functional tests, which may include performing repairs at the component-level as required

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Typically a minimum of 4 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing aircraft electrical and avionics systems, which must include 1 year experience working in production flight

  • A&P or Repairman certification required

  • Leadership experience highly desired

  • Working knowledge of Production Certificate System

  • Engine run certification for a minimum of 1 current production model

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents

  • Working knowledge of flight-line ground safety procedures

  • Ability to differentiate between malfunctioning test equipment versus malfunctioning aircraft system

  • Ability to operate functional test equipment, for example, navigation testers, air data testers, maintenance computers, and transponders test equipment

  • Working knowledge of safety and operating procedures for power-on aircraft

  • Working knowledge of ground support equipment

  • Working knowledge of aircraft flight principles

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair digital and analog systems

  • Ability to obtain and renew certifications

  • Ability to recognize potential electrical hazards in order to prevent injury to self or others

  •  Ability to achieve sufficient technical qualifications to acquire product verification certification

Interior Remove/Install Technician

  • Fabricate, install and refurbish aircraft interior equipment and furnishings per work order or customer request

  • Break down cabinets remove hardware, inlay etc.

  • Strip finish utilizing heat and scraper

  • Mix match and apply stains and paints on new veneers

  • Knowledge on spraying polyester base coats and urethane topcoats

  • Experience with Aircraft touch up

  • Mask and unmask components for finish process

  • Participate in 5-S activities

  • Assist with additional work on drop-ins and planned maintenance within the facility during slow periods of unplanned work as needed

  • Clean aircraft as required

  • Travel on international assignments if required

  • Assist with maintenance at off-site locations and with other maintenance disciplines as needed

Job Responsibilities:

  • Bond a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, skins, components, equipment or structures into semi-finished or finished products.

  • Lays out articles, read blueprint, cuts parts or materials to size.

  • Applies liquid or solid bonding agents.

  • Sands, burrs and smoothes over areas, apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.

  • Monitors and verifies quality of finished product.

  • Completes repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions. Verifies quality of finished product.

  • Operate computer-controlled equipment used in the process and fabrication of bond details and bond assembly equipment such as autoclaves, ATLM machines, ply cutters, tow placement machines, 5 axis and 3 axis machines (Mag, Par, Komo, Water Jet, Fives, Par, Modig, AR17/AR21, Charger RPC, ATLM, ASM, Hydraulic Test Mule) and any new computer-controlled equipment used to process or fabricate bond details and bond assemblies.

  • Select, install, and align proper cutters, zero in machine references, set proper cutter depth and coordinate proper feeds, speeds and cutter dimensions.

  • Select correct autoclave cure program for parts to be cured.

  • Program shop floor programmable equipment when necessary.

  • Fabricate shop aids such as stops, guides, feeding aides and blocks to facilitate machining.

  • Load part program and check against programming sheet before actual machine operation.

  • Recognize improper functioning of machines and take proper corrective action.

  • Must be able to use a variety of measuring equipment (micrometers, scales, calipers, height gauges, thickness gauges, etc.) to check own work and to perform audit and final inspection functions.

  • Make daily maintenance check of machines and accessories.

  • Maintain all required records.

  • Refer unusual problems to lead or supervisor.

  • Train and assist other employees as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • 5 years of experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Strip aircraft with paint remover, sanding skin and seal aircraft, as required.

  • Sand aircraft skin smooth and apply top-coat application to aircraft per customer approved design.
